RelationshipOur Mission Statement

The mission of CANINE COUNSELORS is simple. We work hard to build healthy relationships between dogs and their people. We think that the bond between a person and his dog is so important that without it, any training is difficult. But when present, it is unmistakeable, and the positive effects of that healthy relationship make all training easier.

A trained dog who benefits from the love of his owner will be likely to stay in that home forever. This is both our pledge to our clients and our ultimate goal for their dogs.

To accomplish this, we teach our students to use training methods which will be both effective and humane, and also fun for the dog and for his human teacher. We like to think our approach to each dog and owner team is going to be the best one for that unique pair, and to this end we are able to utilize many different training tools and techniques.

CANINE COUNSELORS instructors and assistants are well-versed in many ways to train, and we will always use a common-sense, balanced approach when helping you with your best friend.

TRAINING COLLARS
by Helen Cariotis

A training collar is any collar you might use when obedience training your dog. Examples of training collars commonly in use are buckle-around (or snap-around) collars, slip collars (either fabric or metal), half-slip collars (martingales), prong collars (also called German pinch collars), head collars, and electronic collars (e-collars).

Any of these collars, used effectively and humanely, can be a good choice. Let’s look a little closer at each one, and see if we can pinpoint their strengths and weaknesses.
